VICTORIA, BC, November 9, 2023 – Barnacle Systems, a leader in innovative maritime solutions, proudly accepts the Ecostar Award in the “Innovation” category. The award recognizes the BRNKL Rapid Deploy, a system designed to address challenges in ocean protection.
The BRNKL Rapid Deploy actively contributes to environmental protection by preventing derelict boats from sinking unknowingly and releasing hazardous chemicals into the ocean. When placed onboard a vessel, it alerts the Coast Guard to potential risks, reducing the threat of pollution and minimizing the impact on marine ecosystems.
Before the introduction of this technology, the Coast Guard would inspect each abandoned vessel in person. The Rapid Deploy allows for real-time remote monitoring, letting the Coast Guard prioritize efforts on the most critical tasks. As of June 2023, a total of 45 Rapid Deploy units have been delivered to the Canadian Coast Guard to monitor hazardous vessels across Canada.
Beyond its immediate impact on coastal protection, the development of the BRNKL Rapid Deploy has raised awareness among national communities about the risks posed by abandoned vessels. The BRNKL Rapid Deploy serves as a catalyst for informed action.
