Victoria, BC – Barnacle Systems, the maker of BRNKL, is the 2022 recipient of the “Safeguarding the Environment” award from the Canadian Safe Boating Council.
Presented at the Canadian Safe Boating Awards (CASBA) Gala in Toronto, this award recognizes a company that has introduced to Canada a boating product or campaign that reduces marine pollution and makes the sport of boating more environmentally friendly.
Barnacle Systems was nominated as a result of its collaboration with Innovative Solutions Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard to test the BRNKL Rapid Deploy, a system designed to allow the Canadian Coast Guard to remotely monitor derelict, abandoned, or hazardous vessels. This helps keeps fuel and other harmful substances out of rivers and oceans should a vessel start to sink or break moorage. The system was developed after learning that the Canadian Coast Guard had to manually visit “Vessels of Concern” to do assessments and understand the position and attitude of the boats in the water.
“The recognition is very special to the BRNKL team as it’s a national award in recognition of our commitment to reducing marine pollution and helping protect the waterways for years to come. Being asked to help the Canadian Coast Guard in their efforts to monitor derelict boats is a challenge that the BRNKL team has truly embraced,” says Brandon Wright, CEO at Barnacle Systems.
