At Barnacle Systems, we’re committed to sustainability in all aspects of our operations. By nature, our boat monitoring solutions help extend the lifespan and condition of boats, calling for fewer repairs, battery replacements, and accidents that affect our ecosystems. Beyond this, our pursuit of sustainable projects and commitment to eco-friendly practices in the office sets us apart as an environmentally conscious organization. We are proud to be certified Green by BC Green Business and as an Ocean Friendly Business for the 2023 year!
Protecting Our Coastlines
The BRNKL Rapid Deploy helps prevent environmental damage by keeping abandoned and neglected vessels from sinking. When these boats sink, they can release large amounts of fuel and oil into the water, causing harm to marine life and ecosystems. By monitoring these boats and alerting authorities before they sink, we can prevent this type of pollution and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
The Future is Electric
BRNKL Black is a remote monitoring system designed to provide near real-time status and alerts from electric or fuel-powered boats. It is placed on board an electric-powered vessel to monitor the electric motor’s health. By measuring this data and comparing it against combustion engines, groups can make informed decisions about the performance and efficiency of electric motors, encouraging the transition to electric boating.
At Barnacle, we prioritize sustainable practices across our office and operations to minimize our environmental footprint. Our efforts include:
- Energy Conservation: We reduce energy consumption by employing state-of-the-art LED lighting, motion sensors, and energy-efficient office equipment.
- Waste Reduction: We promote waste minimization with paperless systems, reusable dishware, composting of food waste, and recycling of electronics, batteries, and lightbulbs.
- Sustainable Transportation: We facilitate sustainable transportation options by offering designated bicycle parking and remote work alternatives.
- Community Engagement: We engage in pro bono services for the local community and actively participate in events through volunteerism.
- Commitment to Truth & Reconciliation: We are dedicated to taking meaningful action in fostering Truth & Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, recognizing the importance of building collaborative relationships.
By adhering to these principles, we strive to exemplify our commitment to sustainable practices while making a positive impact on both the environment and the community we serve.
